Please welcome Mark Henry to The Qwillery. Mark's most recent novel is Parts & Wreck, which was published on November 25, 2013.
TQ: Welcome back to The Qwillery. We've remodeled a bit since you were here last.
Mark: Thanks! Nice to be back!
TQ: So... you've written a Paranormal Romance novel. This seems a bit of a departure from your prior adult novels (See Amanda Feral). What appeals to you about PNR? Do you follow the rule about an HEA or HEA for now? How is your PNR different?
Mark: You know, Amanda had her romantic moments…sort of, but those books really were comedy of manners, or of the ill-mannered. Parts & Wreck definitely follows a similar tone in that it is a comedy, but the romance is at it’s core. I love the weird twists and turns a couple goes through to connect. As for rules, I follow them, for the most part, there’s definitely an HEA-ish in Parts & Wreck. That wasn’t so much of a struggle, because I do like to wrap things up in each book whether it’s a romance or not. I’m already seeing reviews that have declared that Parts & Wreck isn’t like anything else in PNR, and I hope that’s the case. I think there’s room for some weird romance. it’s madcap and crazy and sexy. And I love it.
TQ: Give us the elevator pitch for Parts & Wreck (Parts Department 1)?
Mark: A brutish amateur surgeon takes on a potentially volatile assistant for demonic organ transplant removal, hilarious misadventures…and love.
TQ: The title leads me to believe that someone or something is a wreck. Any hints? Too spoilery? Tell us something about the novel that is not in the book description.
Mark: The “wreck” in the title refers to the human condition. What I love about my characters is that no matter how crazy they are, they are smart and can deliver some really intelligent insights about what connects us all as people. They’re not sappy, they’re real and I can’t think of anything sexier.
TQ: Since there is a series title - Parts Department - can we expect additional novels in the series?
Mark: Yes. I’m working on the proposal for the second book, Cold Hands, Warm Parts, which will tell Polly’s story. I love taking seemingly unredeemable characters and turning them around and Polly’s smarmy gossip reporter is begging for a makeover!
TQ: What else are you working on and what's next?
Mark: By popular demand, I’m returning to the horribly insensitive world of my zombie socialite, Amanda Feral for a trilogy of novellas. The first, Beach Blanket Bloodbath is coming next month. I’ll be indie publishing those. And I’m working on two separate young adult projects. I hope to have news on the new Parts Department novel soon!
TQ: Thank you for joining us at The Qwillery!

Loving Luce will stamp a demonic target on her back and thrust Wade into a frenzied whirlwind of hilarious misunderstandings and, quite possibly, a stripping gig for emptynesters. About Mark
Mark Hnery traded a career as a counselor to scar minds with his fiction. In stories clogged with sentient zombies, impotent sex demons, transsexual werewolves and ghostly goth girls, he irreverently processes traumatic issues brought on by premature exposure to horror movies, an unwholesome fetish for polyester and/or witnessing adult cocktail parties in the swingin' 70s. A developmental history further muddied by surviving earthquakes, typhoons, and two volcanic eruptions. He somehow continues to live and breathe in the oft maligned, yet not nearly as soggy as you’d think, Pacific Northwest, with his wife and four furry monsters that think they’re children and have a complete disregard for carpet.
