Happy first Monday in October! This is such a fun month - New York Comic Con takes place this coming weekend and Halloween is later this month. I just purchased a rather large skull that lights up on the inside (pictures at some point) and the kids and I are planning our Halloween graveyard.
I started reading Debra Mullins Prodigal Son (Tor, October 1, 2013). This is Debra's first paranormal romance novel. She has written many historical romance novels. So far I'm liking it but if one of the main characters mentions again that she put up her condo as collateral for a bond for someone who skipped and she may lose her condo, I may just delete the book. It's really annoying. I get that she's worried about it. I actually got it the first time. I tend to remember what I read. Now it's just annoying. I think I will keep count to see how many times it is mentioned.
Have you ever read a book where something is mentioned ad nauseum? Did it bother you? Did you finish the book? What makes you stop reading a book?
There is one debut this week - The Palace Job by Patrick Weekes.

Yes! I've encountered annoying repetitiveness quite a lot. Depending on how good the story is around it, I generally let it slide. If, however, there are issues with me liking the main character or plot holes or whatever, I'll just move on to another book. Life is too short!
ReplyDeleteFortunately, the character stopped talking about it.
