Please welcome Pepper Martin to The Qwillery. Pepper is the main character in the Pepper Martin Mysteries by Casey Daniels. Pepper works at a cemetery and solves mysteries for ghosts!
TQ: Hi Pepper. Welcome to The Qwillery! So Pepper you have quite an interesting resume. Former rich girl turned cemetery tour guide and now Community Relations Manager. What is your typical day like?
Pepper: You're not talking work day, are you? Because I'll tell you what, my work . . . well, my boss, Ella, sees my work as one thing. The ghosts that bug me to solve their mysteries have a whole other idea of how I should spend my time. Lucky for me, these days, I've got peeps, three bored ghosts who've volunteered to help me with my job at Garden View Cemetery. That leaves me free to take care of what really matters, those mysteries I mentioned earlier. And believe me, there is no typical day, unless you count things like getting kidnapped, shot at and stalked typical. Those are the kinds of things that happen in my world.
TQ: Do you think it was your destiny to hit that tombstone giving you the ability to see and hear the dead?
Pepper: Well, I thought it was. But in my latest adventure, "Supernatural Born Killers," my mom finally confessed that this "Gift" of mine is something that runs in the family. Who knew! It would have been nice if she'd told me when I was a kid that those "imaginary friends" I had weren't so imaginary after all. Looks like I was destined to talk to the dead all my life. Sighing here.
TQ: You have had quite a few adventures. What has been your most challenging?
Oh my! They've all been pretty challenging in their own way. There was the time I had to deal with dead President, James A. Garfield in "Tomb with a View," and avert a war with Canada. That was pretty challenging. And the time in "Wild, Wild Death" that I got dropped in the middle of New Mexico and had to save a friend. And then there was that ghost that stole my body in "Night of the Loving Dead." I'm still mad at her! Especially since while she was in my body, she was having a pretty hot time with a research scientist I thought was cute and sexy. The dead are never predictable, and every time one of those pesky spooks shows up, things are bound to get interesting!
TQ: Which ghost did you like the most/least?
Pepper: I really thought I didn't like James A. Garfield (see above), but he turned out to be a pretty cool guy. I'd have to say that ghost who stole my body was my least favorite and my most favorite . . . I'll always have a special place in my heart for Gus Scarpetti, the first ghost I met in "Don of the Dead." Don't tell anybody, though. I'd hate for anyone to think I'm a softie!
TQ: We know your ex-boyfriend Quinn doesn't believe you can see and hear the dead. Do you think that you will ever convince him?
Pepper: Ever since Quinn died for a few minutes in "A Hard Day's Fright," I thought he'd come around and finally admit that there's something going on on the Other Side. After all, when he was a ghost, he showed up at my apartment and gave me a crucial piece of evidence I needed to solve a case. You'd think that would be enough to convince Mr. Gorgeous and Hard-Headed. But no . . . . Actually, he's starting to thaw a little. In "Supernatural Born Killers," he finally admits that he was dead for a bit. As for the rest of it, I'll convince him. Trust me. I have my ways!
TQ: What is the best part about helping the dead solve the mysteries surrounding their deaths?
Pepper: Once I solve their mysteries, they leave me alone! Believe me, that's the best part. Ghosts can be pesky. And demanding. And dangerous. Sending them to the Other Side makes them happy . . . and thrills me!
TQ: Do you have any new adventures coming up.

I don't know if I believe in *ghosts* as such. I do believe there are things in the supernatural world we do not understand. I've know people who were very staunch in their belief of ghosts, and maintained they saw them. I'm not there.

I'm never sure about ghosts...but I wouldn't say I didn't believe either. Keep an open mind - just in case I say!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite ghost story is the one about Anne Boleyns ghost at Hampton Court when she goes crying to find King Henry when the guards come to arrest her! It's a very haunting place and easy to picture when you've been there!
I don't believe in ghosts, but I'd be thrilled to be proven wrong.

ReplyDeleteJust the idea of real ghosts existing outside our normal senses is a spooky for me. My cat sometimes stares intently at "nothing" and I think, "Hm-mm, maybe he sees..." and I fill in the blank with the name of a lost loved one. I think we all believe a little, which is what makes Casey's books so great. In the end Pepper puts all our fears to rest! :-)

ReplyDeleteYuppers, I believe in ghosts and have my own ghost story (giggle). As a child my family lived in a house that was once part of the underground railroad... I saw a lot of things in that house and have some great stories! Thanks for the giveaway, I am only on book 5 with Pepper but was excited to see your other books too!

I believe in ghost, also have some experience with them. Not saw the ghost, but rather feel them hit my back! Really creepy. I think if I see ghost with my eyes, I will faint.

I'm not sure it's a ghost story per se, but I absolutely adore The House Next Door by Anne Rivers Siddons. I ALSO adore the Pepper Martin series, so thanks for holding the giveaway!
