TQ:  Welcome to The Qwillery.

Stacey:  Thank you so much for having me by! It’s great to be here.

TQ:  What would you say is your most interesting writing quirk?

Stacey:  My biggest quirk—and it’s a biggie for sure—is that I write each draft of a new story on a different computer. I have no clue why I do this, but it’s become a ritual.

I have a notebook that I write my first drafts on. For whatever reason, the smaller screen helps me get more words in. I think it’s because I can’t see everything so I just focus on new words, not the grammar. When I do my second draft, which is all the piecing together and usually involves a lot of cutting and pasting, I use my laptop—and usually edit while I’m on my comfy couch. Then on my third and final read-through, I’ll use my computer in my office.

Quirky system, I know, but it works!

TQ:  Are you a plotter or a pantser?

Stacey:  I think of myself as kinda right in the middle. I love being panster and letting the story happen as it will. There’s something fun in writing that way! But I’ve had to learn to be a plotter, too, since I need to write synopsis to get the book published.

Typically, I do an outline, which is why I don’t think of myself as only a plotter. It’s basic, and has minor chapter details, but it shows me the flow of the story. This helps write the synopsis. Other than that, I just write and let the characters take over. Usually this means my book ends up looking different than the synopsis, but the bones of the story will stay the same.

TQ:  What is the most challenging thing for you about writing?

Stacey:  Rewrites. I loathe them. I get grumpy when I have to do them and I’m usually very happy when it’s over.

TQ:   Describe Werewolves Be Damned (Magic & Mayhem 1) in 140 characters or less.

Stacey:  Smorgasbord of supernaturals. Alpha-male hero meets a spitfire heroine. Kick-ass action with a dash of steamy romance!

TQ:  What inspired you to write Werewolves Be Damned?

Stacey:  The basic thought behind the story is that I wanted to create a world where all supernaturals existed together. What can I say—I love them all, and I thought it’d be fun to write a story where the focus wasn’t only one supernatural, but all of them!

I also wanted to create a heroine who could kick some serious supernatural butt, but also possess magical abilities. That’s why the heroine, Nexi is part witch and part guardian—she’s the best of both worlds!

TQ:  What sort of research did you do for Werewolves Be Damned?

Stacey:  Honestly, not very much research, except for finding out details about Carson City. I do love to make my own worlds from scratch, which usually means making up as much stuff as I possibly can. That’s the fun part in world-building!

TQ:  Who was the easiest character to write and why? The hardest and why?

Stacey:  Easiest: Kyden. He’s a hottie—‘nuff said!

Hardest: Nexi. She’s extremely emotional. And well, so am I. She’s probably the character I relate the most too, because of that. So, at times she can overwhelm me, but most times I totally get where she’s coming from.

TQ:   Without giving anything away, what is/are your favorite scene(s) in Werewolves Be Damned?

Stacey:  Tough question. Of course, I loved writing the steamy scenes between Nexi and Kyden. For me, the passion between these characters affected me right down to my bones. I could seriously feel the desire oozing from them when I wrote the story.

That being said, I also love writing the action scenes. It definitely gets my heart racing!

TQ:   Werewolves Be Damned is an Urban Fantasy Romance. What is Urban Fantasy Romance?

Stacey:  Basically, it’s similar to paranormal romance—the main characters are supernatural creatures and it’s a romance story. The only different is that the books in the series will follow the same couple throughout the series instead of a different couple each book. And the “romance” is equally as strong in the story as is the “action”. Yep, that’s exactly why I love to write in the urban fantasy genre—it’s a blast!

TQ:  What's next?

Stacey:  I’ve got a couple things on the schedule right now, but soon, I’ll be working on MAGIC & MAYHEM Book Two, WITCHES BE DAZZLED. I’m excited to get back into this world and spend more time with my favorite supernaturals!

TQ:  Thank you for joining us at The Qwillery.

Stacey:  Thanks for the interview! It’s been fun!

About Werewolves Be Damned

Werewolves Be Damned
Magic & Mayhem 1
Entangled Edge, April 15, 2013
eBook, 267 pages

Nexi Jones—part witch, part guardian, and wannabe kick-ass warrior—can’t throw a punch or conjure the simplest magic. But that doesn’t stop her from hunting the werewolves who slaughtered her human family. She’ll have her revenge, but only if Kyden, the elite guardian, would get the hell out of her way.

Kyden can’t decide if Nexi wants to get herself killed or if she just has no clue what she’s doing. But her father made it clear: keep Nexi safe…or else. Of course, the more Nexi runs toward revenge, the more she needs Kyden’s aid, and as she grows into her power and confidence, so does his desire to protect her. The only problem? She’d rather he dropped dead.

But when a vampire paints a bull’s-eye on Nexi’s back, she’s hard-pressed to deny Kyden and the help he’s offering. Even if it means getting her revenge will be a little bit harder. At least it will still be as sweet.

About Stacey

Stacey Kennedy is an urban fantasy lover at heart, but she also enjoys losing herself in dark and sensual worlds. She lives in southwestern Ontario with her husband, who gave her a happily-ever-after. Together, they have two small children who can always make her smile, and who will never be allowed to read Mommy’s books. If she’s not plugging away at a new story, you’ll find her camping, curling up with the latest flick, or obsessing over Sons of Anarchy and Game of Thrones.
