Discount Armageddon
InCryptid 1DAW, March 6, 2012
Mass Market Paperback and eBook, 368 pages
Ghoulies. Ghosties. Long-legged beasties. Things that go bump in the night... The Price family has spent generations studying the monsters of the world, working to protect them from humanity-and humanity from them. Enter Verity Price. Despite being trained from birth as a cryptozoologist, she'd rather dance a tango than tangle with a demon, and is spending a year in Manhattan while she pursues her career in professional ballroom dance. Sounds pretty simple, right? It would be, if it weren't for the talking mice, the telepathic mathematicians, the asbestos supermodels, and the trained monster-hunter sent by the Price family's old enemies, the Covenant of St. George. When a Price girl meets a Covenant boy, high stakes, high heels, and a lot of collateral damage are almost guaranteed. To complicate matters further, local cryptids are disappearing, strange lizard-men are appearing in the sewers, and someone's spreading rumors about a dragon sleeping underneath the city...

Who are some of your favorite Urban Fantasy novelists or novels?
ReplyDeleteI'm not a huge fan of Urban Fantasy, but the two authors I do follow are Laura Anne Gilman and her Cosa Nostradamus novels, and Jim Butcher. I've met precious few UF fans who don't like Jim Butcher, and many others besides...
Damn, why did you have to ask me about favorite authors and novels. I'll keep it short, or try to:
ReplyDeleteDresden Files - Jim Butcher
Kate Daniels - Ilona Andrews
Armageddon Bound - Tim Marquitz
October Daye - Seanan McGuire
Joe Pitt Casebooks - Charlie Huston
Connor Grey - Mark del Franco
Elemental Assassin - Jennifer Estep
Charlie Madigan - Kelly Gay
I'll leave it at that.
Anyways, enter me for the full entries:

+10 Because of the bribe money I sent you.
I already have all those fabulous books, (but not signed copies!), so don't enter me. However, by the previous sentence, you can see that Seanan/Mira is one of my favorites. ;) I have SO many favorites, and Qwill, YOU keep making that list longer! (Good Qwill, good! LOL!)
ReplyDeleteJust off the top of my not-caffeinated-enough-yet head: Ben Aaronovich, Jim Butcher, Stacia Cane, Kelly Gay, Kim Harrison, Nicole Peeler, Trent Jamieson, Allison Pang, Jenn Bennett... The list could go on and on... But not right now - I just heard the coffee pot 'ding' to announce its ready!
Ciao!
;)
WOW what a great contest. I too own most of the books above, however, signed copies are always nice, and that way I can re-giveaway my slightly used copies.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite urban fantasy authors....well the short list would have included Mira Grant, but here are some others:
Ilona Andrews-Kate Daniels series
Datoka Banks
J.J Westendarp (great up and coming indie author)
Kelley Armstrong
Sophie Littlefield -Cassandra Dollar trilogy
I could go on and on and on, but those are the ones that I could think of this early in the morning

I first discovered the UF genre with the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning. I came into it by accident not knowing what genre they were from (probably I was thinking paranormal), but that the premise was interesting. Good thing I ended up loving the series. That's why I have tosay Karen Marie Moning is one of my favorite UF writer.

Some of my favorite UF authors are Kelly Gay with her Charlie Madigan series, and of course Jim Butcher with his Harry Dresden series. I've really gotten into UF a lot more during this past year- it's never boring, and I love the tough, gritty characters. It's like taking some elements of all my other favorite genres, dumping them into a blender, and coming up with the best literary cocktail ever!

I haven't read as much UF as I'd like. I'm trying to branch out, but it mostly sits on my wishlists currently. I read LKH before she decided to forgo plot for the chance to live out her sexual fantasies. Does that count? I recently read Eyes to See by Joseph Nassise which I really enjoyed. Can't wait for his next one. And so many on my need-to-read list; Kevin Hearne, Jennifer Estep, Patricia Briggs (I've read her straight fantasy and enjoyed it), MLN Hanover, etc. So many. Even Jim Butcher. Saw the TV series, haven't read him yet. Will likely read his Codex Alera series first as I do lean more heavily to the traditional fantasy.
