Please welcome BA Tortuga as part of The Qwillery's Authors After Dark Author Spotlight Interviews.
TQ: What inspired you to become a writer?
BA: I have been writing since I can remember and I've always known this is what I wanted to do when I grew up. I have my degree in creative writing, I worked for years as an advertising copywriter/designer, and I've been publishing poetry for 35 years. I can't imagine not writing.
TQ: What is the most challenging thing for you about writing?
BA: Time management. There are always new stories that want a window and sometimes I have to really make a good idea sit and be quiet so I can meet another deadline. I need four more pairs of hands.
TQ: What writing achievement are you most proud of?
Just Like Cats and Dog was my first, undeniable best-seller. As in on multiple best-seller lists best-seller. It makes me unbearably proud how many people love Sam and Gus and their story.
TQ: What one thing should everyone know about your writing?
BA: I write like the characters talk and think. In other words, I write in incredibly tight third person. My characters, especially my cowboys, don't think in grammatically correct sentences sometimes, sometimes they use weird Texanisms, there will be tons of nicknames. Also, sometimes my characters lie. I try and make them tell the truth, but they're flawed, even in my head.
TQ: Please tell us about your latest and upcoming works.
BA: I have a number of new books out/coming out. Deep in the Heart of Hexes is the first in a paranormal series featuring three best friends in central Texas and the New Age shop, Cowbell, Book and Candle. Deep in the Heart of Hexes features Lily and Marc, the granddaughter of the owner of the Cowbell and the magic user who comes to her rescue in her time of need.
Shifting Streams 2: Opening the Cage is the story of Canyon, Mesa's twin, who finds a pair of magical wolves, Riana and Wend, who have the capacity inside their bodies to start or stop a war. (paranormal, m/m/f, coming in March)
This spring I also have a story in Po'Boys, a New Orleans themed paranormal, Cereus: Opening, a BDSM paranormal with Julia Talbot and Sean Michael, as well as What She Wants, a m/m/f story in the Roughstock universe.

About BA
I enjoy indulging in the shallow side of life, with hobbies that include collecting margarita recipes, hot tub dips, and ogling hot guys at the beach. A connoisseur of the perverse and esoteric, my days are spent among dusty tomes of ancient knowledge, or, conversely, surfing porn sites in the name of research. Mixing the natural born southern propensity for sarcasm and the environmental western straight-shooting sensibility, I do my damnedest to produce mainstream fiction, literary erotica, and fine works of pure, unadulterated smut.
With characters ranging from supernatural demons to modern-day cowboys, alternative illustrated men to Victorian dandies, the addiction to history and atmosphere is everpresent, and laced through with sensual pleasure. my latest projects include werewolves, rodeo cowboys, and fistfighting rednecks.
