TQ: Welcome back to The Qwillery!
Lisa: Thank you so much. I really appreciate you having me.
TQ: What inspired you to write the Zodius series?
Lisa: A combination of things. I love Vegas which is the backdrop and I’ve always been fascinated by Area 51. My now deceased father-in-law was special forces as were his brothers. My ex was Army. Before my father-in-law passed he hinted at being at the rumored alien cleanup site. Actually he said he was there. He was sworn to secrecy and minus a few hints he took the truth to the grave. Even that, made me research the stories of people threatened and even mysteriously dying to keep secrets. It was easy for me to think that something like the Zodius project might be going on. And, of course, a hot Army hero is always fun to write about!
TQ: Tell us about The Storm That is Sterling (Zodius 2)?
Lisa: Sterling was a big part of The Legend of Michael so readers meet him in book one. He is a damaged hero with a lot of pain but he never gets bitter. He just lives a bit like Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon, on the edge, ready to die. And he has a wicked sense of humor he hides behind.
TQ: How do you choose your characters' names?
Lisa: Sterling was a waiter at Carrabas in Austin, Texas, one of my favorite restaurants, but in general I play with names and think about how the character I’m developing fits the name. For some reason, a name just attaches to that character and feels right. I already told a lady at my gym I have to use her name though in the future. It’s Xia and I think that is cool and unique like Sterling.
TQ: Without giving anything away, what is/are your favorite scene(s) in The Storm that is Sterling?
Lisa: That is really hard because there are so many. I think probably a scene in a bar near the end of the book is my favorite because of a revelation and the emotional content.
TQ: Which character has surprised you the most in the Zodius series so far?
Lisa: The love interest for Caleb. I planned something for him and then this other character stepped forward and claimed him. You’ll be able to figure that out in The Danger That is Damion. I don’t want to say a name and give it away.
TQ: In the Zodius series who has been the easiest character to write and why?
Lisa: Sterling was pretty easy to write because I just ‘got’ him from the minute I invented him. He was alive on the pages and I love his humor that just pops out of my head because it feels like him.
TQ: How many books are planned for the Zodius Series?
Lisa: I have 6 outlined and I have ideas for more.
TQ: What's next?
Lisa: Well in late November – as in this month – I have HOT VAMPIRE TOUCH which is book 3 of my indie Vampire Wardens series. Then on December 13th WICKED WEREWOLF NIGHT which is a connected story to the Wardens and you will meet the hero in TOUCH. I have lots going on next year including The Danger that is Damion in May, a new Blaze trilogy, a Spice Brief, more indies, and some things I hope to announce soon!
TQ: Thank you for joining us at The Qwillery.
Lisa: Thank you so much for having me!

Sterling is such a unique and different name you don't see out there everyday! And I like how you ask the person or tell them "I'm gonna use your name"
ReplyDelete* Blushes * Since I have several works in progress I can easily name the heroine and hero.
1. Eriea Alqualond (heroine) and Rhaedayel (hero)
2. Raon Rioghain (heroine) and Darach Balmoral (hero) - Actually this is the work in progress that I mentioned when you commented on my twitter avi. You said he was hot and I mentioned he was a side character
3. Kiirri Dallig (heroine) and Kheldin "Fei" Morindum (hero)
4. Gillian Flemings (heroine) and Seaborn Dowd (pronounced Seh-ben. Friend's family name. She let me use it!)

I have given this a lot of thought recently. I had a bright idea of watching the word verifications, as sometimes I could swear they would be excellent names of characters. Today, however, that did not pan out. I don't know if I would every have the comedic writing ability to name my main character Mindsud, then again I think I will jot that one down for the awesome UF character, yep the more I think on it the more I like it LOL I live in the US and am very excited about this lovely giveaway opportunity. Thank you for the wonderful interview and sharing some fun with us today.
