Angels Who Break the Rules
What is it about rules that makes them so fun to break? We are not supposed to eat candy. But it’s so delicious. We are supposed to exercise regularly, but it’s so much more pleasant to sleep an extra hour in the morning. Speed limit is 55… but my car goes so fast.
And that’s the rub that makes calamity of following the rules. Breaking them brings us pleasure. Rules are there because if they weren’t, we would do something we probably shouldn’t do. If there was no desire to do it, the rule against doing it would be unnecessary.
That’s why we like it when our romance characters break the rules. What’s the fun in a man who is all good? We want a man with a wicked streak, a dark lining, a glint in his eye that hints at something… bad. And the best kind of bad is the bad that used to be perfect. Why? Because we strive to be perfect every day – we have no choice. And that constant trying to be something we never will be gets so gosh darn old. We get so tired of having to be good, of having to follow the rules. When we see someone even “better” than us break those rules and “fall,” well, let’s just say it makes us happy inside.
In fact, one might go so far as to say it turns us on.
Enter the Lost Angels. This paranormal romance series delves so deeply and thoroughly into the realm of good and bad and the difference between right and perfect, it’s like eating your cake and having it too. There is nothing sexier than the Angel of Vengeance going rogue or the Warrior Archangel getting a taste of his own medicine in a mate who fights him back. And when it comes to Azrael, the Angel of Death? Forget about it. Once you catch sight of him, you will be dying to hear his story.
So, throw caution to the wind, break out the all-fat, all-calorie food you love to hate and hate to love, and settle down under a blanket with my boys. They won’t disappoint you. Breaking the rules was never this much fun – and sin never tasted so good.

Hmm.... I think I'll have to go for Lucivar from the Black Jewels series by Anne Bishop. He's my favorite hero wether he's breaking rules or not (which he does all the time btw ;-)

I'd have to concur with Sullivan's comment that Lucivar and Daemon were both delicious rule breakers. Another fabulously wicked romantic character is Bones from Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series, and Raphael(Raffe), an Archangel from Susan Ee's Angelfall is my current book crush.

Mac from the Fever series comes to mind. She breaks and makes a lot of her own rules, which I don't blame considering the world she lives in.

Jack Thane from Heather's book "Hell Bent," breaks the rules in some serious ways but makes up for it in so many other ways. He also knows how to break the rules heroically.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise it would be Daniel Kane from "The Heat," the first of the Big Bad Wolf series. He is such an ass at times but I would forgive him anything.
I don't know if he would be considered a romance character, but Jack Thane from Heather's book "Hell Bent," breaks the rules in some serious ways but makes up for it in so many ways. Otherwise it would be Daniel Kane from "The Heat," the first of the Big Bad Wolf series. I would forgive him anything.

ReplyDeleteThe Qwillery is totally spoiling me. I thought I was just dropping by to read an awesome post by one of my favorite authors and what do I find when I am ready to share my appreciation of this post? Oooh-boy! a giveaway of another incredible read by Heather Killough-Walden Yowzaaa! I am just so greedy that I can never get enough:)
ReplyDeleteI know that this character is not strictly in what would be termed the romance genre, but Rachel Morgan (Kim Harrison) is one the most rule breaking ladies out there and when romance enters the picture the rules are always being broken. I love Rachel in love!
Thank you so much for the delightfully fun post and awesome giveaway opportunity today.

My favourite romantic character who breaks the rules... I don't usually go for the bad boys. I like the good one- the ones who don't feel the need to break rules. However, the only bad boy, rule-breaker I found attractive during my romance reading adventures was Zsadist from JR Ward's Lover Awakened. He intrigued me from the very first book and I just new that his and Bella's love story would be epic. I was so glad to be right:)

IT's so hard to pick just one since so many of my favs , like may of the other commenters, all break the rules and that's why they're so amazing as characters. I agree that the BDB guys are all rule breakers of some sort; same with those hunks from Lords of the Underworld.

I would have to say Cat & Bones from Jeaniene Frost Night Huntress series, Anita Blake from Laurell K Hamilton series, and Rachel and Ivy from Kim Harrison's Hallows series. They are all rule breakers, but for good. They are fighters and protectors. They are all about protecting the innocent.
ReplyDeleteThis is a new author for me and would love to win and read this book. Thanks for the giveaway and the chance to win.
