The Fine Art of Dating…For Those of the Paranormal Persuasion
When I first thought of a paranormal dating agency, it made perfect sense from a convenience sort of view. I was on a flight, reading a magazine and came across an article for an ‘exclusive’ dating service that catered only to businessmen that made over a certain dollar amount a year. And while this might have been a thinly veiled advertisement for call girls, it also got me to thinking. There are specific dating agencies out there for all kinds of needs. Disabled? There are wheelchair dating websites. Catholic? Jewish? Mormon? Specific dating websites. Over fifty? You guessed it.
In a world where there are shapeshifters and vampires and the like, of course it would make sense that they had a dating agency. Once I determined the agency, though, I had to think about privacy. Supernaturals in my world aren’t ‘out’, so to them, privacy is of the utmost concern. There’s rigorous background checks for anyone that tries to set up a profile at the agency, and all dates are monitored by a crack team of employees who do their best to ensure that they’re not pairing up were-cats with were-dogs.
Clients that need a dating agency also have different kinds of dating needs. A vampire might need a date that’s available for late nights, doesn’t like garlic, and maybe has an “O” blood type. Of course, she’d have to be okay with dating one of the undead as well. Even though vampires are welcome at my fictional dating agency, they still have a difficult time getting the right dates, since they're not *all* sexy undead. Sometimes they're just undead, and undead can be tough to pull off as sexy.
Most of the clients of Midnight Liaisons (my paranormal dating agency) are of the shifter variety, and as such, they prefer to date other shifters. It’s a lot easier to date when you don’t have to explain why your date shouldn’t wear perfume (sensitive animal noses), why your new boyfriend likes his meat really raw, and why he sometimes grows a tail. Or whiskers. Or both.
Of course, most of the employees at Midnight Liaisons (with the exception of the boss) are human. Which leads to an entirely new, delicious set of problems…

Beauty and the Beast sounds great!
ReplyDeleteI think my perfect paranormal date would be a shifter- maybe a werewolf or a large cat shifter...I wouldn't mind if he had to have a semi-raw steak as long as he doesn't mind if I get a chocolate dessert. Maybe we could even share some wine.

My perfect paranormal date would be a shapeshifter because they're my favorite paranormal creature. But I'd be happy as long as it wasn't a vampire trying to eat me. That would be a horrible date.

Hm, it's either going to be a flying shifter of some sort or an angel. We might as well fly to our date destinations without dealing with airplanes.

If the date involved a meal, a shifter of some sort since I'd be uncomfortable eating when the other person wasn't. otherwise, I'd be game for any supernatural who promised not to eat/kill me.

My favorite paranormal date would be with Barrons, who is intense, sarcastic and not very fond of food. However, no matter what we did or where we went I know he would be protective, interesting and far from boring. We may even get to kill a few unseelie or two.

Hmmm -- just give me one of the BDB Vampires or LOTU Demons. Either one will pacify me :)
ReplyDeleteNot quite sure how it would work, but a date with a ghost might be pretty interesting.

I'd choose a date with a nice, sexy vampire. Although the big cat shifters sound pretty nice.

OMG! What a great idea and super funny to boot. My perfect paranormal date definitely involve the Alpha of the local wolf shifter pack(sorry, vamps! I know. you never thought I'd desert you, but I prefer a little bark with my bite this evening!).
ReplyDeleteHe would take charge and bring on a wonderful date starting with him doing the usual pushing me up against a wall and telling me in a low, raspy growl that this date with him WILL be the best i've ever had abd it will end with a vigorous romp in his private estate's 100 acre forest. Oh, yeah - dude's gotta be loaded. Am I right, ladies?

I agree with alainala, to ride on a dragon shifter would be a great date. I just want to watch him eat any raw food, though!
