Interview with Sharie Kohler & Giveaway - September 2, 2011

Please welcome Sharie Kohler to The Qwillery.

TQ:  What would you say is your most interesting writing quirk?

Sharie:  Hm, probably my most interesting writing “quirk” is that I write my first draft, in its entirety, on my alphasmart – which is simply a word-processing device that only allows me to see about 4-5 sentences at once. It’s excellent for rough draft writing. I never even work on my computer until the rough draft is completed.

TQ:  Are you a plotter or a pantster?

Sharie:  When I began writing I was a pantser, but now that I have several books under my belt and write, on average, three books a year – I’ve become a plotter out of necessity. It’s just what I’ve evolved into.

TQ:  Without giving anything away, what is/are your favorite scene(s) in Night Falls on the Wicked?

Sharie:  Um, tough one. Probably the opening … establishing the setting – which I think is really unique – and, of course the hero/heroine’s first “meet”. Those “meets” are always exciting, tension-filled moments. In NIGHT FALLS ON THE WICKED, Darby and Niklas instantly recognize something out of the ordinary in the other one … and of course there are sparks! J

TQ:  In Night Falls on the Wicked, who was the most difficult character to write and why? The easiest and why?

Sharie:  Oh, probably the heroine, Darby. She’s a white witch, with demons intent on “possessing” her. That made some scenes tricky … sometimes I actually had to write a scene from a demon’s POV as he was “flashing in and out” of Darby … see, it’s even tough to explain. It came together in the book though, but it required some careful crafting. As for easy … I wouldn’t say anything is really easy when it comes to writing a book! ;) It’s always work, but work I love.

TQ:  What's next?

Sharie:  My next release is VANISH, which I write under the name Sophie Jordan. It’s the sequel to Firelight, my YA debut that has been optioned for film by Mandalay. The script is actually being finished up as I type this. ;)

Sharie:  My next paranormal, written under Sharie Kohler, will release in 2012 – no title yet; it’s Darius’s long-awaited story though.
