There have been a lot of books with dragons in them - Anne MacCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series comes to mind immediately. In those stories, the dragons were not the love interests or shifters. I decided to put together a list of novels that include a dragon shifter as a main character. Here's what I've come up with so far. Let me know what I've missed. Keri Arthur's Myth and Magic series, starting with Destiny Kills, and the soon to be released Mercy Burns feature dragon shifters. Destiny Kills had not only air dragons, but sea dragons as well.

ReplyDeletewe also must not forget the collaboration of Andre Norton and Mercedes Lackey on the Halfblood Chronicles: The Elvenbane (1991), Elvenblood (1995), and Elvenborn (2002). It has been awhile since I have read them, but I still remember them.

ReplyDeleteKel, the dragon shifter hero of Master of Dragons was introduced in Angela Knight's Master of Swords. There are other dragon shifters in both books.
ReplyDeleteTielle St.Clare wrote a series for Ellora's Cave Called Shadow of the Dragon, that is about a family of dragon shifters (Father, two sons, and a daughter). The order is Dragon's Kiss, Dragon's Fire, Dragon's Rise, and Dragon's Prey.
Lena Austen wrote a m/m dragon shifter in Dragon's Egg (Changeling Press), Cynthia Sax has the Dragon Lord trilogy also a Changeling.

Wow, great list. I loved Shadow of the Vampire. Megan Hatfield created some VERY sexy dragons.
ReplyDeleteI read 3 of Abe's books & was not impressed. The age difference in 2 of em bothered me, plus I'm not a historical fan.
I adore dragon shifters. Playing with how a dragon's personality would mold in human form is a blast.
ReplyDeleteDragon Bound by Thea Harrison, coming out this May from Berkley, has a dragon shifter hero. While the rest of the series tends jump from couple to couple, I reveal that Dragos (and Pia, of course) will get another book later on. :)
Love this list, but you forgot the space dragons from The Society On Da Run. The leading men (and women) are part of the dragon empire. Good to see they are actual dragons (scales, wings, dragon body, dragon neck, and such) and not anthro dragons. Anthros really bother me. Imp Empress, The Love of an Italian Dragon, Aether the Tether (not out yet but it was announced) and Dragons and Cicadas focus solely on the Italian dragons and their empire. I recommend it if you like books with good characters and good world building.
