Bram Stoker's was born in November 1847. While he wrote several books he is most well known for Dracula, which was published in 1897. Stoker did not invent the vampire story, he just made it wildly popular and influenced generations of writers.
In honor of Bram's birthday, I'm going to give away a copy of Dracula by Bram Stoker and a copy of Dracula The Un-Dead by Dacre Stoker and Ian Holt. Dacre Stoker is Bram's great-grandnephew. Both books are Trade Paperbacks.
Dracula by Bram Stoker
The one vampire to outlive them all.
Here begins the story of an evil both ages old, and forever new. It is the story of those who instill a diabolic craving in their victims, the men and women from whose blood they draw their only sustenance. It is a novel of peculiar power, of hypnotic fascination. The reader is warned that he who enters Castle Dracula may not escape its baleful spell-even when he closes this book...
Dracula The Un-Dead by Dacre Stoker and Ian Holt
The authoritative sequel to Bram Stoker's original horror classic.
A quarter of a century after Count Dracula "crumbled into dust," Quincey Harker-the son of Jonathan and Mina Harker-leaves law school to pursue a career on stage, only to stumble upon the troubled production of Dracula, directed and produced by Bram Stoker himself.
As the play plunges Quincey into the world of his parents' terrible secrets, death begins to stalk the original band of heroes that defeated Dracula a quarter-century ago. Could it be that the count survived and is now seeking revenge? Or is there another, far more sinister force at work whose relentless purpose is to destroy anything and anyone associated with Dracula, the most notorious vampire of all time?

ReplyDeleteHi! =) Please enter me in this giveaway.
I'm not really into vampires, but my favourite one of all time is definitely Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He was likable even when he was a villain, and I believe vampires should be a good mix of obvious malice and irresistible charm.
I have a link to this contest up on my sidebar.

Thank you! =)
I think my favorite vampire is the one that George Hamilton (I think that's the actor) plays in Love at First Bite.
ReplyDeleteGeorge always has a great sense of style. Of course his side kick Arte Johnson is great too.
just one entry! Congrats to the winner.
That's such a difficult question to answer!
ReplyDeleteThe first vampire books I ever read were the Anne Rice ones - I developed a bit of a habit and read through to Pandora (I think it was) before deciding that Anne Rice needed a bit of a break from vampires. But with that in mind, I think my one of my favourite movie vampires is Stuart Townsend as Lestat. I think it helps I rather liked the soundtrack too. I didn't really get a sense of 'scare' or 'fright' from him though, so I'm torn between him and the vampire character from Robin McKinley's Sunshine, who does have at least a little menace about him. (And as though this isn't difficult enough a choice, I'm trying to stop my brain thinking about the creations of J. R. Ward, Kresley Cole, Lara Adrian & the seemingly endless list of fan(g?)tastic PNR writers!)
Thank you for the wonderful giveaway!

What can I say? I still have the battered, mudstained copy of Dracula that I bought from Scholastic Bookservice back in grade school. I'm a fan of Count Dracula and Jack Palance is still the best incarnation I've seen (closest to Stoker's own descriptions). I do have a soft spot for St.Germain as well.

It's gotta be Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He was always so cool and collected!

I wanted to say Spike from Whedonverse was my favorite vamp, but since a few people already picked Spike... I will say Jean Claude from the Anita Blake books. Or Betsy from the Undead series.
ReplyDeleteanastaciaknits at verizon dot net
thank you!
My favorite vampire is a tie. I love Jean Claude from the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series, cause he hot (or as my friend would say "sex on legs"). Then I love Spike from Buffy cause he's just so...great, all around. lol

I most like the vampires who tread the line between evil and redeemable. The bad boys who are only honest with you.
ReplyDeleteSo, give me Eric Northman from the Southern Vampire Mysteries (aka the Sookie Stackhouse books). Jean Claude, Lestat, and the like all fall in this realm, too, but Eric exudes 'otherness' and never really feels human. I dig it.

Wow, this is a really hard question. There are way too many good vampires out there. I'm torn between L.K. Hamilton's Jean-Claude, Rice's Lestat and Atwater-Rhodes' Aubrey but I think I'll actually go with Aubrey since he was the vampire that really got me into vampires.

I'm going to have to say my favourite vampire is Mick St. John from Moonlight he was the first one to get me to like them. Then came a certain Dimitri Belikov. ;) And of course I didn't mind Duckula. :P

I'm not typically a vampire girl, but I was so taken with the Darkangel books when I was younger!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!
With so many books and shows about vampires it's a hard choice, but right now I would say my favorite vampire is Eric form True Blood. He's just so cool xD

ReplyDeleteBookwise I always loved Dameon in the Vampire Diaries (not the tv show version!). Movies would be Gary Oldman's portrayal of Dracula. He was just so sexy in it (not when he was the old verision in the beginning) TV would be Spike. I loved him from the moment he joined the cast. He also was a much better character than Angel. Angel was only good because he had a soul but when he didn't he was truly evil. But Spike went through hell to get a soul because he loved Buffy.
