It's all explained in the vlog except the bits that aren't:
What: 1 copy of Werewolves and Shapeshifters: Encounters with the Beasts Within, edited by John Skipp.
Werewolves and shapeshifters have morphed into the latest pop culture stars. This mind-bending collection includes thirty-two new and classic stories from the best writers in the genre.
Werewolves and shapeshifters are the latest literary craze following vampires and zombies. The phenomenal success of the Twilight series, and the blockbuster movies that followed, has spawned a new obsession with these supernatural beings. From John Skipp, the master of horror, comes this definitive collection of thirty-two classic and new stories, written by favorites of the genre including George R.R. Martin, Charlaine Harris, Chuck Palahniuk, Neil Gaiman, H.P. Lovecraft, Joe R. Lansdale, Angela Carter, David J. Schow, Kathe Koja, Bentley Little, and more. Skipp provides fascinating insight and details, through two nonfiction essays, into the history and presence of shape shifting in popular culture. Resources at the end of the book include lists of the genre's best long-form fiction, as well as movies, websites, and writers.

I have two friends, Jean Stein and Mario Archeleto, sorry, I am not sure how to spell Mario's last name. Bot are members of Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers, that's how I know them, both write Urban Fantasy featuring vampires and both their styles are completely unique from each other. The are a fun read. Jean writes the Anna Strong series and one of the tiles for Mario is 'Love Bites.'
ReplyDeleteI write epic fantasy.

I love reading zombie books. Telling me a book has zombies is an almost guaranteed way to get me to buy it. I got two today for that reason alone. However, my next top pick would have to be shifters of some sort - especially if it's a romance. Vampires - gag me please! With the exception of some series, like the Broken Heart books - I just don't want to read another vampire book.
ReplyDeleteMy fav new zombie books of the year are: Feed by Mira Grant, Married with Zombies by Jesse Petterson, Night of the Living Trekkies by... oh man, it's two dudes and it's hysterical!
My favorite shifter book that I've read this year was Eternal Hunter by Cynthia Eden.
As far as the other enteries... I've retweeted once, I need to retweet again with the #bookaddicts hash tag. It's totally going up on my Facebook.

ReplyDeleteI like to read them all, as long as they are well done. I think my favorite is the cat shifters.

ReplyDeleteWerewolves are my favourite. I'm fascinated by the idea that they are monsters only one or a few nights of the month. The ethics of the reinforced cage appeal to me.

It depends on the mood I'm in, though vampires are usually at the top of the list. If I'm in the mood for a good horror book, I'll go for zombies :)

I've become sick of vampire books because I want them to go back to being scarey disgusting creatures not sparkly things. Lately I've been into stories with fae, zombies (preferably the scary kid), and psychics.

ReplyDeleteI love reading mostly about vampires because of the innate sensuality they seem to have, especially in paranormal romances. (What can I say? I'm a girly girl when it comes to those addicting reads!) However, shapeshifters have had a place in my heart since the first time I saw Labyrinth. Seeing Jareth turn from fae to owl and back was SO cool!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite shifter books are also romances, but unfortunately, the author passed away a few years ago. However, my favorite book series ever, the Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon, does feature a lot of were-creatures and some shapeshifters. I highly recommend those to everyone who is mature enough to read them!
I just became a follower today after being made aware of this giveaway via Alethea Kontis.
ReplyDeleteWhich monster do I enjoy reading about most? I don't really have a preference, though in the last couple of years I have read a number of very good novels involving zombies. Brian Keene's The Rising, Max Brooks' World War Z, and Nate Kenyon's Sparrow Rock.
I saw this book last week at Borders. Great looking book. Following you on twitter as well.

I've always been a fan of werewolves and other changelings. When I was young, I read every book in the school library concerning this topic. When I'd exhausted those stacks, starting ordering books from neighboring areas. I'm sincerely hoping werewolves are the new vampire.
ReplyDeleteI am a fan of vampires. i love the idea of them being vulnerable sometimes when around humans, hence Vampire Romance is one of my favorites, but I do like shifters as well!
